Ceiling rosette, how to choose it?

Adding character to your interior can sometimes be tricky. Paint, wallpaper, skirting boards, picture frames… everything is fair game to create a unique atmosphere in your home. And yet, sometimes it all comes down to one detail. What if that detail was the ceiling? Often neglected in favor of walls and floors, the ceiling is nonetheless essential for making a room look its best. And to dress it up, what could be better than a decorative element too often forgotten: the rosette.

Available in a variety of sizes and shapes, rosettes can be placed decoratively on the ceiling or wall. They are very useful for highlighting a light fixture, concealing a flaw, or hiding cables. Their presence adds a touch of elegance and provides a true finishing touch to the room.

Here are some questions to ask yourself before choosing a rosette:

• What style do I want to give to my room?

Rosettes have been a feature in interiors for so long that you're sure to find something you love. Do you like the Louis XV style? Opt for richly decorated white rosettes, diamond or round shapes. Are you drawn to Scandinavian interiors? Choose round wooden rosettes for a warm and rustic effect. Prefer an industrial style? Nothing beats metallic or glossy black porcelain rosettes to add the finishing touch to your decor? For Art Deco enthusiasts, choose rosettes with strict geometries, made from fine materials and adorned with gold leaf. And if your style is all about simplicity, consider square, minimalist white polyurethane rosettes.

• What is my budget?

The price of rosettes depends on the material (wood, polystyrene, polyurethane, plaster, aluminum, etc.), but also on their dimensions and the required precision of the moldings. Polyurethane remains a good value for money. This material, less expensive than plaster, has a very similar finish and allows for good results.

Once you have chosen your rosettes, all that remains is to install them. Installation is easy by following the steps below:

1. Outline the surface of the ceiling/wall where the rosette will be placed and clean it.
2. If you are connecting a light fixture, check and route the cables inside the ceiling rose.
3. Glue the rosette in place by pressing firmly, or screw it in if its weight is too heavy.
4. Clean off any excess glue or cover the screws.
5. Connect the electrical cables and install your light fixture.
